Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Xi’an
You will arrive at Xi’an today by yourself. Please tell us your flight time that we will arrange the tour guide to meet you in the airport or the train station. Your Silk Road tour by the luxury China Orient Express train will begin in Xi’an, a city with over 3000 years history and it is also the starting point of the ancient Silk Road for the great trade caravans of the ancient Silk Road. The rest of the time will be on your own. Our tour guide will give you the itinerary for the tour and the departure time on June 18.

Day 2: Xi’an City Tour
Today, we drive to visit 【Famen Temple】, which was first set up during East Han Dynasty. In the year 147 AD, King Asoka of India traveled to Asia, preaching Buddhism. He established Famen Temple and left the fingers of Buddha to be enshrined here. In the course of rebuilding the pagoda in 1987, an underground vault was discovered under the base of the pagoda. A great amount of Buddhist relics were found including four finger sarira relics. The most prominent feature of the new complex is the 148m Namaste Dagoba and vault. Then, we return to Xi’an, the marvelous【Tang Dynasty Dinner Show】 at Tang Dynasty Palace will be prepared for you. The various savory dishes together with the exciting show will be sure to give satisfaction to your appetite, your eyes and your mind.

Day 3: Xi’an — Tianshui (By China Orient Express)
A memorable day of sightseeing begins as you view remnants of Chinese ancient past: the life-sized 【Terra-Cotta army】,one of the eight wonders of the world, which was buried with the emperor for over 2,200 years.
In the afternoon, you will visit the【Huaqing Hot Spring】 in Mt Lishan. In ancient time, emperors used to come here to bath and enjoy the scenic beauty. It has become a favorite spa since the Tang Dynasty.
22:00pm, we onboard the【China Orient Express】Train to Tianshui.

Day 4: Tianshui — Lanzhou (By China Orient Express)
Arrival in Tianshui at 06:30am. After breakfast, we drive to visit【Maiji Mountain】. The natural scenery of Maiji Mountain is the most beautiful among the famous resorts of grottoes in China. The Maiji Grottoes were first constructed in 384 and thereafter gradually became one of the large-scale grotto groups in China and the famous artistic spots in the world through continuous chiseling and reconstruction during more than ten dynasties.
We will take 【China Orient Express】 train to Lanzhou at 16:30pm. After a pleasant dinner at restaurant of China Orient Express,we arrive in Lanzhou at 21:00pm.

Day 5: Lanzhou – Xining (By bus)
After breakfast,we will visit the【Waterwheel Garden】 in Lanzhou.Originated from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the waterwheel is the oldest irrigation tool in Yellow River area of Lanzhou. The Waterwheel Garden is a theme garden exhibiting the waterwheel culture. Here, you could appreciate the waterwheel driven by the flowing water all year round to collect water from the river or cofferdam.
After Lunch, we drive to Xining, Xining is the capital of Qinghai Province and it is also a start station of Qinghai-Tibet railway(“Sky Road”).

Day 6: Xining – Golmud – Lhasa (By China Orient Express)
Today you will visit the 【Kumbum Monastery】, one of the six largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. It was there in the former that Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism was later founded in 1583. It was ranked in importance as second only to Lhasa.
In the late afternoon, you will ride on the soft sleeper train to Lhasa. The train has been equipped with the Oxygen sources and specially designed and manufactured for the higher plateau operation. This train will help you to adapt yourself to the higher altitude.

Day 7: Qinghai – Lhasa (By China Orient Express)
Today will be the highlight of your tour to【Lhasa Tibet】 while enjoying the thousands of miles of the most stunning landscapes in the world, rolling by outside your window. The highest place you will cross by train can reach to 16400 ft. Your train will get to Lhasa in the late afternoon and the tour guide will meet you at the train station. The rest of the time will be free and you need to adapt yourself to the higher altitude.

Day 8: Lhasa
Lhasa, with an altitude of 11972 ft above sea level, has been regarded as the highest city in the world. With a long history and unique natural environment, Lhasa boasts of rich ethnic folklore and magnificent highland scenery. In the morning, you will first visit 【Potala Palace】 which was built in the seventh century and rebuilt by the Fifth Dalai Lama in 1645. It symbolizes Tibetan Buddhism and is the central role in the traditional administration in Tibet. In the afternoon, you will visit 【Jokhang Monastery】, an example of the earliest architecture in Tibet, located in the Barkhor Market district, the spiritual center of Tibet. The monastery contains a sacred Buddha image that draws thousands of pilgrims every day.

Day 9: Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse
Today’s trip is little bit demanding but fascinating, you will cross two high passes over 16400 ft Khamba La and Kharo La plus one beautiful Lake –【Yamdrok Tso】 provide wondrous views of the Himalayan range. The drive is no daunting task as you will pass through many more beautiful Tibetan valleys and quiet villages along the way. The 【Pelkor Kumbum】 in Gyantse is much more than a stupa, as it is surrounded by numerous Tibetan murals and small chapel houses. Even if you are no art connoisseur you will be amazed by these ancient murals and architecture. After the visit in Gyantse you will continue another one and half an hour easy drive to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet.

Day 10: Shigatse – Lhasa
In the morning we will visit the famous 【Tashi Lhunpo monastery】 where you can see the well preserved largest statue of Jampa (future Buddha) in the world. Then, we proceed back to Lhasa. On the way, we can enjoy scenic views of the Yarlung Zangbo Gorge/ Brahmaputra River (the Longest and largest river in Tibet).

Day 11: Lhasa
Today is the day of farewell to your memorable Silk Road trip and the unique China Orient Express. After a pleasant breakfast, free at your own leisure till the assemble time for the transferring to airport for the flight back to your hometown or next destination.
